Marching Mustangs hope weekend events restore lost funds

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- On Nov. 4, LRHS will host the annual Florida Marching Band Coalition (FMBC) Music in Motion competition.

Additionally, last Saturday’s Florida Band Association (FBA) Music Performance Assessments (MPAs) were cancelled due to the stormy weather. They are rescheduled to take place Saturday, along with Music in Motion.

Due to Hurricane Irma and some football games being rained out, the Marching Mustangs’ fundraising and concession stand revenue has suffered. Music and Motion has always raised money for the music program, but now that MPAs are being judged at LRHS as well, the Marching Mustangs can earn at least some of the money they missed as a result of the rainy fall season.

At MPAs, the bands will receive scores of Poor, Fair, Good, Excellent, or Superior in music and marching. At the end of the night, after all the participating bands have played and the Marching Mustangs have completed their MPA performance, they will perform again as the hosting band.

Senior trumpet player Michelle Matheson said, “I’m excited to show the other bands and judges what we’ve accomplished at Music in Motion. Though we lose the rehearsal we were supposed to have before the competition, I am happy that we get to host MPA’s as well. The new marchers will get a taste of what finals is like, performing twice in one day, and we get another chance to put our show on the field.”
