Cross-country girls win district, join boys in regionals

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS varsity cross country teams succeeded in the Class 4A District 8 meet this past weekend. The girls team won the meet, becoming district champs for the first time since 2010. They edged out Riverview and Manatee for the win.

The boys were also successful in advancing to the regional finals, finishing third as a team. Sarasota earned the win and St. Petersburg got second.  The top four teams advanced to regionals.

Sophomore Ava Klein led the girls team with an eighth-place finish, while senior Shay Lee and freshman Riley Bradshaw were 11th and 15th, respectively.

Junior Johnny Reid led the boys, finishing second overall. Sophomore Calvin Drake finished 14th while senior Andrew Dean was 16th.

The Class 4A Region 2 meet will be this Friday, Nov. 3 at Holloway Park in Lakeland. The top six teams in the region will advance to the state finals.
