Lauren Wood – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – For LRHS seniors, Friday Nov. 1 is the deadline for priority college applications and essays.
Students must submit these forms in order to be considered for first admittance into Florida universities. These colleges include Florida Atlantic University (FAU), Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), University of Florida (UF), and University of South Florida (USF).
Though other institutions have rolling admissions (applications can be submitted at any time during the year), it is preferable to submit by the early deadline and is encouraged by counselors.
School counselor Evelyn Williams visited seniors in LRHS government and economics classes to inform students about applying to colleges. Williams handed to seniors planning guides which included information about scholarships and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Workshops to help complete the FAFSA will be available to students in Manatee County. The next workshop will be held at Bayshore High School on Wednesday Nov. 8. Seniors that would like this grant need to complete the form as soon as possible. It is on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Other deadlines coming up are senior payment and sweatshirt fees. The $25 senior fee is due by the end of the semester before it will raise in price, and sweatshirts will be available until Friday, Nov. 3, costing $25 each.
