So what exactly is a “White Out”?

Madison Aker – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Friday, Oct. 20 is the annual rivalry football game between the Mustangs and Braden River High School.

LRHS students are urged to wear all white, making Friday’s game a “white-out.”

Braden River supporters will be in all black, showing distinction between the two schools.

LRHS is not the only school that does this. In fact, many colleges and national sports teams show their dedication and support by wearing all white and advertising a “white out.”

The tradition first started in hockey, when the NHL’s original Winnipeg Jets encouraged their fans to wear white in 1987. This was in response to the rival Calgary Flames fans’ all red attire.

The Jets won the series and the tradition continues, not only in Phoenix, where the Jets moved in 1996, but all across the world.

Mustangs can participate in the phenomenon by showing their support Friday wearing all white for LRHS.
