SADD provides Mustangs a chance to change lives

Amanda Hamende – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- LRHS Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) strive to help, heal, and listen to each and every Mustang. SADD is an organization for those who want to do good for themselves and the community.

LRHS has been very fortunate to be a part of this nationwide organization.  Sophomore Brooke Martin shares her experience as to why she joined SADD.

Martin stated, “I joined SADD because I want to be more involved in our school and also because this club provides a good cause for not only our students but also our community.” According to the National SADD group, they “envision a world in which young people make positive decisions that advance their health and safety.”

Personal stories involving tough situations are one reason why people join SADD.  Almost every student in SADD has either known someone or been someone who has dealt with situations that SADD groups try to prevent.

Martin added, “One of my aunts is currently in rehab after struggling from alcoholism.  Also, my cousin at a young age was found dead after falling out of a two-story window while under the influence of drugs.  It was really hard for me to overcome these events so once I found this club on campus, it inspired me to help students at our school make wise and healthy decisions.”

SADD wants to help as much people as they can.  Martin explained, “I would never want to witness a tragic event like this happen to one of our students at Lakewood Ranch, so it is my mission that no one has to go through the same pain my family members went through.
