(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Last weekend both the boys and girl’s cross-country teams competed in the Florida State University (FSU) Invitational in Tallahassee.

The FSU invitational is a pre-state meet. It helps the runners know the course and competition for the state championship competition.

The top runner from the boys’ team was LRHS junior Johnny Reid, running a 16:25 and placing second overall in the boys select race

For the girls, sophomore Ava Klein led the way with a time of 20:51. Klein placed 66 in the girl’s elite race.

Reid said, “I thought the meet was very successful. We all got a look at the state course and know how to run it. We need to continue working hard so we can get back to states and run here again.”

With only two more regular season meets for the boys and girls team, the state championship is getting closer and closer.

Sophomore Anna Stock commented on the goal of a state championship, “I think it is a very realistic goal to make it to states and possibly even place well. We have been placing pretty well over our last couple of meets.”

Stock also said the team has some pretty strong runners from last and some good new runners also.

Both Stock and Reid agreed that from the beginning of the season both of the teams have been improving and they expect them to continue to do so all the way to the state championship.

The next race for the teams is this Thursday, Oct. 12 at Venice high school.
