Markella Paradissis-Wagner – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS Marching Mustangs competed in the 4A class on Oct. 7, 2017, at Durant High School at their first competition of the season, the West Coast Invitational Competition in Tampa.

The Marching Mustangs took home all of the caption awards, including Best Percussion, Best General Effect, Best Music, Best Visual and Best Color Guard, along with earning first place in the 4A class with a score of 71.550.

The Marching Mustangs performed their show, “Dante’s Redemption,” which has music based off the wind ensemble piece “The Divine Comedy” by Robert W. Smith and the video game art of Tal Peleg.

Band director Ron Lambert said, “My goals were met for the first competition of the year in that we were able to detail and polish the first two movements well enough to earn the high score and build confidence.”

Bands are organized into classes based on size, including 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A. The new qualifications for 4A include up to 100 musicians, including percussion, compared to last year’s 80 wind players. With 100 musicians, the Marching Mustangs are at the top of the 4A class.
