(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)-  This past Sunday, about 500 volunteers worked at different Publix locations around Manatee County to “Stuff the Bus.”

LRHS Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) members worked inside Publix, collecting donations and handing out flyers to shoppers. After collecting donations, students were able to go inside and purchase more canned goods and non-perishable foods to stuff the bus.

“It was nice to see the students participating and interacting with other people, most people were gracious enough to make a donation,” said FCCLA advisor Elaine Bowling.

Sophomore Morgan Kirchman volunteered from 12:30 to 3:30 in the afternoon. “I would definitely do it again, I was happy to be a part of such as amazing program,” said Kirchman.

Vice President of the development for the food of Manatee County Diana Dill said, “Sunday’s 2017 annual Stuff the Bus couldn’t have come at a better time.”

Citizens of Manatee County came together for the eighth annual Stuff the Bus, to donate over 78,000 pounds of food for the victims of Hurricane Irma.
