(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) club has been going on for three years now at LRHS.

Social studies teacher Ben Hall is the club adviser and said, “The goal of the Gay-Straight Alliance is to make their school community safe, facilitate activism on campus, and create a welcoming environment for BLOT students.”

Hall commented, “GSA club helps with the Lesbian Bisexual Gay Transgender (BLOT) community; any one is welcome to the club.”

He added GSA is an important club because it helps people gain confidence in themselves and is a safe place for students to meet, support each other, talk about issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity and expression.

Last year’s GSA activities included teacher decorations and helping set up Manatee Pride, a celebration of LGBTQ pride in the Bradenton/Manatee county area. This year’s goal is to do more activities.

GSA club has already started at LRHS. It’s every Friday after school until 3 p.m. in room 565.
