Robby Rodriguez – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The annual LRHS Homecoming Clash of the Classes kicked off homecoming week Monday night. Select students were chosen to represent their grades, along with a number of teachers forming their own team. All five teams participated in six events: relay race, tug-of-war, cookie face contest, dodgeball, pie-eating contest, and a game of handball.
The relay race began the event, and the freshmen took the win. Tug-of-war followed with the teachers victorious. Later, sophomores took the cookie face contest, and in an exciting surprise, the freshmen won the dodgeball tournament. Finally, after four events, seniors took back-to-back victories in both the pie-eating contest and handball game.
Freshman Dallas Rodriguez stated, “I was kind of skeptical at first coming into the homecoming event, knowing that the other teams were much bigger and more athletic. In addition, being aware that the seniors win every year is intimidating all on its own. Though my teammates were not phased, and we were still determined to have a great time.”
When freshman won the first two events Rodriguez was surprised, “Little did we know that we would come in first in two events and tie for second place against teachers, I say that’s a pretty successful outcome. Without a doubt I am going to represent my class all four years.”
LRHS Student Government Association (SGA) President Ally Boudreau, senior, said, “The whole event was beyond successful.” She added, “The turnout was great along with the hype and positive energy that carried throughout the gym.”
The final results were seniors in first place with 20 points, teachers and freshmen tied for second with 18 points, juniors in third with 17 points, and sophomores in last place with 16 points.
