(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Rough weather and an interrupted football game couldn’t dampen the generosity of LRHS Mustangs.

Before the Sept. 1 football game, LRHS math teacher Catherine Franek’s launched an effort to raise as much money as possible for the Salvation Army to help victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Students staffed decorated buckets to collect people’s donations.  LRHS art teacher Terry Thomson’s students decorated the buckets.

Franek stated, “The students of Lakewood Loves Animals, Key Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Mustangs for Christ helped collect the money”

As fans headed to their seats, they were asked to give whatever they could donate at the moment.  Rain forced the end of the game to be postponed until Saturday morning, so many people left without getting a chance to donate.  The total amount collected was $311.50, and Franek said that was a great amount for a short amount of time.
