Manatee schools monitor Hurricane Irma

Here is the latest from the Manatee School District regarding Hurricane Irma –

This is an important message to all School District of Manatee County parents, students and employees regarding Hurricane Irma.

Superintendent Greene and District Leadership are monitoring the movements of Hurricane Irma closely. Dr. Greene has been in contact with Gov. Rick Scott and Education Commissioner Pam Stewart regarding preparations for the storm and the likely use of our schools as shelters.

Throughout this week the School District will coordinate closely with Manatee County Emergency Management officials on all aspects of storm readiness and communication with the public. No decisions on closing schools will be made until more precise information is available on Hurricane Irma’s projected path.

With Hurricane Irma potentially affecting our area late this week or during the weekend, the District is moving all high school varsity football games to Thursday night, instead of Friday night. In addition, the District is cancelling all games in any sport on Friday.

The ‘MySDMC’ app is free, and available in the Apple App and Google Play Stores.
