(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS Quill and Scroll club is having their first meeting at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21 in room 541. This club is intended for students who are involved in journalism, television production, journalism, and yearbook.

Membership is open to only juniors and seniors, have an overall B average, be involved in one of the classes above or get a recommendation from your English teacher.

Mustangs must pay a one-time fee of $25 for a national membership.

LRHS English teacher and club adviser Candice DeLazzer said, “Quill and Scroll is an international honorary organization for outstanding high school journalists and writers.”

The club’s membership is selective and although it has not intended to be a service club, it is involved in several service projects during the year.

Quill and Scroll helps with the annual “Mayors’ Feed the Hungry” canned food drive and the annual Mini Mustangs Easter party. They also provide cards and small gifts to teachers during American Education Week and the holidays.

Being involved with Quill and Scroll will also help Mustangs gain community service hours.

DeLazzer stated, “It is one of the few honor organizations whose seniors can wear their honor cords at graduation.”
