Cross country Mustangs off to fast start

Johnny Reid – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Saturday, Aug. 26, the Mustang cross country teams traveled to the Jim Ryun Invitational at Holloway Park in Lakeland to open their season.

All four teams, boys and girls varsity, along with boys and girls junior varsity (JV), produced very promising times.

Even with races being pushed back 30 minutes due to traffic problems, the Mustangs raced ahead as they also placed well both individually and as teams.

In the varsity races, sophomore Ava Klein and junior Johnny Reid led their respective teams, finishing eighth overall.

Lakewood Ranch also did well in the JV races, as sophomore Ellison Wietecha placed third and freshman Sydney Buck placed fourth.

Overall, the girls varsity were runners-up as a team behind Osceola High School and the boys finished seventh.

The girls JV finished second as a team while the boys finished third overall.

Next week, Sept. 2, the teams will head down to Estero to take on the notoriously tough course at the DDD Sommer Invitational.
