Cross-country hits the road this weekend

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The Lakewood Ranch cross-country teams will open their season this Saturday, Aug. 25 at the Jim Ryun Season Opener at Holloway Park in Lakeland.

This will be the second straight year that they have begun their season at this meet, and it attracts some of the top teams in the state and some great competition to the course.

Junior Dylan Wellard expressed his excitement to begin the season, “I’m excited to see how I do but I’m also nervous since it’s the first meet of the year and am not quite sure how I’ll do.”

Last season, the girls varsity team placed fourth out of 40 teams while the boys varsity placed second out of 50 teams.

Girls varsity will run their race at 7:30 a.m. and boys varsity will start at 8:00 a.m. Girls junior varsity will then begin at 8:30 a.m. with the boys junior varsity following at 9:00 a.m.

Parking for the event is $5.
