(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – This summer was all work and no play for the LRHS Silver Stars Dance Team.

The team immediately started learning their Pom routine, which is a very sharp and high energy form of dance, created by guest choreographer Kirsten Winship. There was also conditioning twice a week to strengthen and improve themselves for the United Dance Association (UDA) annual summer dance camp.

The camp took place June 12-16 in St. Petersburg. After the four days of learning routines, competing, and evaluations, the team scored high.

The Silver Stars proudly took home 24 blue ribbons, the Team Full Out Award, and the award for most Drill Down Ribbons. They received the Spirit Stick all four days and the Super Spirit Stick. Two dancers, senior and captain Sammy Kedziora and senior and officer Jamie Newby, were awarded with All American honors and their Pom routine won first place for the third year in a row.

Silver Stars coach Kourtney Kalahar said, “This summer the Silver Stars worked harder than ever. Not only did the team work on learning a difficult Pom routine, but they were also up bright and early training and conditioning. The girls put dance team as their number one priority and it payed off by winning first place at dance camp! I couldn’t be prouder of my team!”

After their long week of dancing the Silver Stars went back to LRHS to begin reviewing sideline routines for the upcoming 2017-18 LRHS football season.
