(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – This year’s LRHS golf team is excited to take on Venice and Manatee at 3:00 p.m. on Aug. 23, at Lakewood Ranch Country Club.

Coach John Victor explained how the team has been preparing for the upcoming match, “The players have been getting in a lot of holes this summer, and are more than ready to shoot low scores.”

Returning seniors Mike Wijas and Drew Angelo have been named this season’s team captains.  Victor believes that having two captains this year will be a great change that hopefully gives players more than just one role model to look up to.

With four new players joining the team, the goal of qualifying for states this season seems in reach. With the addition of freshman Matt Bruton, a player who could be one of the team’s top three players all year, Victor has aspirations to finish in the top five in state.

Freshmen Braden Macy and Bruton have been up to par the last few weeks when the team has needed it most. “I’m very excited to see what they can do for the upcoming years,” said Victor.

Another player Victor is excited to see perform is sophomore Dillon Gabbart.

“I believe he is one of our most improved players,” Victor stated. Gabbart recently won the Mustang Cup with teammate Ashley Ringo with a combined best-ball score of four under through nine holes.

Victor and the players hope to see some fellow Mustangs on the course supporting the team.
