(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The electronics policy at LRHS is a little different for the 2017-2018 school year.

LRHS assistant principal Michael Staker stated, “Students are allowed to use cellphones, i-pads, headphones, earbuds, or anything electronics related before school up until 7:45 a.m. when the tardy bell rings. They can use them after school after 2:05 p.m.  They can use them on their lunch periods and they can use them in the classroom as long as that teacher deems it acceptable.”

This policy generally states that if the electronic device is visible at all on the student during an unapproved time then the deans will confiscate the item.

Staker added, “The only difference this year versus last year that I mentioned in the orientation was that this year one of the deans would be out in the courtyard with a box to collect the items at that point…if the students have their item out, visible…we just ask them for that item, we write it down on a post it note…wrap it up in a rubber band…then its processed like a cellphone referral.”

The main reason for this policy is that students have to focus “on what they’re here for, which is their education…cellphones can be a distraction, they can also be a safety hazard.”

If the students’ cellphone or any electronic device is visible, it is considered a violation of this policy, which is here for the overall safety of all LRHS students.
