(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – After a 42-minute wait due to bad weather Friday night, a crowd of Mustang and Ram football fans found out the game would go on. The Riverview Rams eventually defeated LRHS 41-6 in the 2017 Football Classic.

Although senior quarterback Justin Curtis took up most of the playing time, George Davis, junior and backup quarterback, threw the only touchdown pass of the night for the Mustangs. The pass was caught by sophomore wide receiver, Dylan Bennett.

There were a few tense moments when LRHS junior Giovanni Silvestri was escorted from the field following a tackle.  Silvestri returned in the fourth quarter to encouraging cheers from the crowd.

LRHS head varsity football coach Mick Koczersut stated, “I’m disappointed on how the score turned out. There were some good things that happened but obviously we’ve got to do a better job as coaches to get the kids ready for next week. We will watch the film, make evaluations on how the kids played, and try to fix the mistakes.”

“The kickoff classic is always fun for the band because we get to let our hair down and play our fun stands music,” said LRHS band directory Ron Lambert. “We aren’t allowed to get on the field at this game so there’s no pressure to do our field show, it’s just plain fun.”

The Mustangs next game will be on at 7:30 pm, on Friday, Aug. 25 at IDA Baker High School in Cape Coral.
