(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is looking for students who show leadership and family skills. The club is run by LRHS Early Childhood Education (ECE) teacher Elaine Bowling, who teaches ECE 2-4.

Bowling is very excited for this year’s group of students. “We are trying to recruit underclassmen and compete in the district, state, and national competitions,” she said.

The club teaches a student effective leadership and social skills with different types of people.

Community service and travel is part of the club.

“We mainly do community service and competitive events,” said Bowling, “but we also team up with other clubs at the beginning of the year for the CTSO rally and participate in fundraisers.”

A goal of FCCLA is to make students leaders. The club accomplishes this by having the students run it. Leadership is an important part of the club.

“I expect a great group of students that’ll do great things for this club,” said sophomore Morgan Kirchman.

Competition this year will held in Bradenton for district, Orlando for state, and Atlanta, Georgia, for nationals. “I’m excited to compete hopefully in a new competition, in state and nationals,” said senior Skylee Miller.

New students can sign up in room 619 anytime during the school day. The first meeting will be held at 7:15 a.m. on Aug. 23 in room 619.

“This is going to be the best year yet,” said senior Keionte Henry.
