Amanda Hamende – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Returning to LRHS after a long absence, Evelyn Williams is again an LRHS guidance counselor. Williams is stepping in for counselor Janet Hunter, who unfortunately had to take a leave of absence for personal reasons.
Williams’ official first day of work was Aug. 4 and she admits that she is “trying to get back into the swing of things.” She counsels Mustangs with last names A-Co. Williams previously worked at LRHS from 2000 to 2004 and retired from the Manatee school system last year.
Williams said, “I always wanted to go into counseling and I knew that ever since I was seven or eight years old.”
She loves helping students become the best version of themselves. Spending time in middle school, high school, and college, she decided that ultimately, she liked the high school atmosphere best.
Williams stated, “Testing starts in September and it seems like you’re testing all year round so it doesn’t give you enough opportunities or time to do what you want to do and meet with the kids.” She wants to meet more with her kids in the future.
For many kids, schedule changes are happening this week, and Williams said, “I’ve been trying to do the best I can in such little time to make sure everything went smoothly.”
Some advice Williams gives for students wanting schedule changes is “if you chose a class you’re going to be in that class…we are not going to change it.”
Returning to the school has definitely brought up many memories here. Williams stated, “believe it or not, some of the teachers that are here, were here when I was here. There are a lot of people who are here that I’ve known…and I’m still meeting new people that I did not work with.”
Williams said the people at Lakewood are, “very friendly and very helpful.”
