HT Preps honors spring Mustangs

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The Sarasota Herald-Tribune has released its issue honoring all the excellent spring athletes. LRHS was represented well in track and field; coach Mark Napier won Coach of the Year, seniors John Rivera and Sam Jackson made the all-area team.

Mustang senior Sophia Falco won Player of the Year for women’s track and field. She won the state long jump and triple jump titles while finishing second and third in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes respectively.

Napier said, “This is an honor for the whole team.  It’s been a privilege to work with this outstanding group of young people and athletes this year.”

Baseball was well represented as well with junior Pablo Garabitos winning player of the year, junior Dylan Buck being selected to the all-area team and senior and University of Florida commit Colton Zimring was named honorable mention.

Softball had a successful season this year this year, making it to the regional final. Coach Maggie Sharrer won coach of the year.  Freshman Avery Goelz and seniors Denali Schappacher, Logan Newton, and Kinsey Goelz made the all-area team.  Seniors Morgan Cummins and Mackenzie Meyer were honorable mentions.

“It’s a privilege to coach these girls and it’s a total team effort to the whole staff and I wish the award went to all three of us,” said Sharrer.
