(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) Last weekend the LRHS track teams thrived at the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) State Track and Field Championships. The competition took place Friday and Saturday at Bradenton’s IMG Academy.

The Mustangs brought home multiple gold medals and a ranking of fourth in the state for both teams.

Seniors John Rivera and Sophia Falco led the Mustangs to victory.

Rivera placed first in the 800m run with a time of 1:50.38 and was second overall in the mile.

Falco placed first in the girls triple jump with 42-08.00 as well as fourth in the Girls 100 Meter Dash with a time of 24.26.

The boys team placed first for the 4×800 Meter Relay on Saturday with a time of 7:53.45.

Track and field coach Mark Napier said, “For us to do what we’ve done and be the top academic school is not an easy accomplishment.”

LRHS traditionally is among the most academically accomplished athletic programs in the state.
