Track ready for states

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – As the weekend approaches, the LRHS track and field teams are preparing to compete at the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) Class 4A state meet. The meet will take place over two days, from May 5-6 at IMG Academy in Bradenton.

Both the boys and girls varsity teams have athletes that will be representing LRHS this weekend.

From the girls team, senior Sophia Falco and junior Karen Lyvers will be competing.

Falco qualified in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, long jump, and triple jump while Lyvers qualified in the pole vault.

Last year, Falco was the state champion in the long jump, along with runner up in the triple jump and 100-meter dash.

On the boys side, seven athletes qualified for states.

Field event athletes include junior Harry Barthelemy in the long jump and high jump, senior Sam Jackson in the shot put and discus, and junior Noah Oxley in the discus.

A trio of distance runners qualified as well, including senior John Rivera and Jonathan Reid in the 800 and 1600 meter run, and junior Andrew Dean in the 800 meter run.

They also make up the 4×800 meter relay team along with senior Brice Easton who will take their state leading time into the weekend.

Parking for the event will cost $10 along with a $12 admission fee at the gate.
