Paige Venuto – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS softball team won its district championship Thursday night, 2-1 against Sarasota High School. The game was a tight match until its final moments.

Senior Mackenzie Meyer said, “The game was intense. Sarasota came out ready to play and we were not able to produce runs until late in the game. It was a big win in the eighth inning. Both teams wanted the home field advantage and we fought hard to get it.”

Senior Logan Newton helped lead the team to victory against Sarasota. She pitched a 2-hitter and went 1-3 with a double and an RBI.

Coach Maggie Sharrer said, “It was a hard fought game, but it helped us prepare for regionals.”

The next game will the first round of the Regional Quarter Final Wednesday night against Clearwater Countryside High School at home.
