Amazing math race aims to challenge kids and traditions

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Any LRHS students in need of community service hours may want to contact math teacher Deb Dalton.

She is looking for about 16 students to help with the “Amazing Race”. This event is a very non-traditional algebra 1 review session scheduled to take place after school on April 25.

“It’s kind of a fun way to review for the algebra End of Course (EOC) Exam,” said Dalton.  “The kids will pair up and then proceed to a series of checkpoints by graphing equations.  At each checkpoint, they’ll solve equations to get their next clue.

“Some of the checkpoints have detours that can delay them from the finish.  One they have to play cornhole, another has a puzzle and one requires both partners to stack dice on a tongue depressor.

“The first team that gets though all the checkpoints and gets to me first will be the winner,” said Dalton.

Dalton said 15 people have already registered for the event, and she’s still collecting prizes for the winning team.

The race is scheduled from 2:15 to approximately 3:45 p.m.

Interested students can see Dalton in portable 928 for more details about the event.
