Track teams gallop through FSU Relays

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS boys and girls varsity track and field teams competed at the Florida State University (FSU) Relays this past weekend, Friday, Mar. 24 and Saturday, Mar. 25. Both teams came out with successful results.

The Mustang boys finished sixth out of 55 teams and the girls finished tied for 19th out of 55 teams. Tallahassee Lincoln took the overall boys win while IMG Academy won on the girls side.

The Mustang boys 4×800 meter relay team won their event with a time of 7:55.18. They surpassed the previous school record of 7:59 and posted the fastest time in Florida up to this point.

The relay team consisted of junior Andrew Dean, senior Brice Easton, sophomore Jonathan Reid, and senior John Rivera.

After the race, Easton said, “I’m very happy with our team and the time that we were able to post and am looking forward to seeing what we can do throughout the rest of the season.”

Rivera also won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.89 and beat the previous meet record of 1:52.28.

Senior Sophia Falco finished third in the 100-meter dash and fourth in the 200-meter dash. Her times were 12.15 and 24.64, respectively.

The Mustangs will travel to Gainesville next, to take part in the Pepsi Florida Relays with races from March 30 – Apr. 1.
