More success for Mustang musicians

Markella Paradissis-Wagner – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Last weekend all three LRHS concert bands competed in Music Performance Assessments (MPAs.)

After performing on stage and sight-reading for judges, those competing in MPAs receive scores of Poor, Fair, Good, Excellent, or Superior in each portion of the evaluation. A Superior is equivalent to an ‘A’ grade, an Excellent a ‘B”, and so forth.

The ninth grade band received scores of “Excellent” in every category.

“I think we did really good,” said freshman bass clarinet player Jack Beatenhead.

Additionally, the symphonic band achieved “Excellents” for their on stage performance and a “Superior” in sight-reading and the wind ensemble earned straight “Superiors.”

Senior bass clarinet player Kirina Lakhwani stated, “I felt that the symphonic band did really well because we were in tune and some songs we played had crucial, exposed moments.”

The wind ensemble received “Superiors” at districts, qualifying them for the next level, state competition.
