Markella Paradissis-Wagner – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- Tuesday night the LRHS band program hosted its Pre-Music Performance Assessment (MPA) concert, featuring the LRHS Symphonic Band, Ninth Grade Concert Band, and Wind Ensemble, in the school auditorium. On Mar. 4, 2017, at Riverview High School, all three concert bands will also compete in MPAs.

Bands perform MPAs before judges who evaluate them over a variety of categories.

The ninth grade band performs at 9:45 a.m., the symphonic band at 1:00 p.m., and the wind ensemble at 3:45 p.m.

After performing on stage and sight-reading for judges, those competing in MPAs will receive scores of Poor, Fair, Good, Excellent, or Superior.

“I think we’ve done the preparation and now it’s just a matter of performing and I think we’ll do really well,” said oboe player Chandler Reed, junior.

The concert was a chance for all three concert bands to perform their prepared pieces on stage.

“The Pre-MPA concert is important for two reasons,” said band director Ron Lambert. “The first, is the educational aspect of the kids seeing each other play. I had one kid come up to me and say ‘the wind ensemble’s way more advanced.’ They need to see that and strive to be that. The second reason is that it give us a chance to do a full run of our performances on stage, in our formal wear, and with an audience.”
