SWAT plans future events

Grace Harvey – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Mustangs have been working hard against the use of tobacco and have pledged to ban is from their own lives.

The Students Working Against Tobacco (SWAT) club has been working very hard to organize events that raise awareness of the effects of tobacco. “Sandblast” is an event run by SWAT that advocates against drug abuse and gives out statistics to warn students of the dangers of consuming drugs and tobacco. “Kick-Butts Day” is a March 15 event designed to educate students on how tobacco can kill you.

Club President Kirina Lakhwani, senior, has grown passionate about this club making a difference.

“I liked what my friends were doing so I joined my junior year and decided that I would like to run the club,” she said.

At the latest swat club meeting Feb 15 the club made a poster about how smoking and chewing tobacco can cause cancer and even death.

The main purpose of this club is to spread awareness about the effects of tobacco and to pledge more students against it. The next meeting is scheduled for the first or second Wednesday of March and will be held in the clinic. Anyone who would like to join is welcome.
