LRHS FFA shows off at state fair

The Florida State Fair in underway and the LRHS FFA Chapter had participated in a couple of the livestock competitions this past weekend.

FFA members Hailey Barns, Alex Whalen, Alyssa McKinney, Emily Chamness, Kaylee Hartwig, Jessica Beirds, and Cara Zeveney all competed in a livestock project at the state fair. The members put many hours of hard work to train, feed, and care for each of their livestock projects for a chance to be crowned Grand Champion for their specific livestock category.

Bierds stated, “Showing at the Florida State Fair was an amazing experience but it also taught me more than I expected it would. In addition, it was nice to learn from and talk to fellow FFA members all across Florida who share the same passion. When I won first in my class, I was shocked. My family and I  were expecting third maybe fourth, so when the announcer called my number we were all ecstatic.”

The State Fair is a more competitive stage for showing livestock than the usual Manatee County Fair, but FFA members more than held their own.
