(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS varsity track and field team took part in their first varsity meet of the season, the George Jenkins Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 18.

The boys team took third place out of 17 teams while the girls placed fourth out of 22 teams.

George Jenkins High School took first overall for the boys and George M. Steinbrenner High School took first for the girls.

Athletes say the first meet of the season generally serves as a good time to see what teams need to improve on and to work off the rust from not competing.

Junior thrower Noah Oxley stated, “It wasn’t my best meet but it was good to get some of the rust off.”

Sophomore 200 and 400 meter runner Emma Donato said, “There was good competition and it was a good first meet of the season.”

Standout performers included senior Sophia Falco who won the 100 meters, long jump, and triple jump along with senior John Rivera, who won the mile with a time of 4:25.
