Sammy Kedziora – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- For years our Silver Stars Dance Team has been dreaming of making it to finals at nationals. With two practices a week, extra rehearsals, performing at halftime at basketball games, and guest choreographers, we believe this season is going to be our year.
We qualified for nationals in first place for the past two years in a row at our four-day United Dance Association (UDA) summer camp. This year we competed against seven other local high school teams and took many other awards as well.
Unfortunately, last year we did not place at nationals, but after the excitement of UDA camp this summer, we are ready to compete and leave our hearts on the stage.
Our coach, Kourtney Kalahar, choreographed our Pom routine, which is a style of dance that is high in energy, consists of sharp movements, includes many formation changes, and we hold poms in our hands while we dance.
Throughout the season we have also been working on our second routine. It’s a Jazz routine, which is a slower and more emotional dance that combines fast and slow as well as sharp and soft movement. It was choreographed by both Kalahar and Powerhouse Dance Studio teacher Kaylin Dalton.
On Feb. 3, the team will travel to Orlando where the National Dance Team Championships (NDTC), is taking place.
We perform both routines on Saturday, Feb 4. Later that day the teams who placed into semi-finals will be announced.
After all of our hard work and focus, especially in the last few months, we feel prepared to take on the stage and show everyone what we have been working on.
