(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS FFA chapter is starting the new year with many livestock competitions. Many agriculture students and FFA members are exhibiting livestock and agriculture projects at the annual Manatee County Fair. .
This current week is for swine, dairy, and plant exhibitors. Check-in for the three categories was Monday, Jan. 9. and showing will end Saturday, Jan. 14 with the plant auction and swine auction.
Swine showmanship was Jan. 10, and all exhibitors will Show Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. Dairy Showmanship & Show was Jan. 11.
Swine auction will begin at 12 p.m. Jan. 14 followed by plant auction later in the evening. Beef and heifer shows will be the following week along with goat projects.
“This week is very valuable for student exhibitors that have been putting time, money, and effort into producing a project acceptable for market,” said LRHS agriculture teacher Susan Grainger. “I can not thank administration and teachers enough for their understanding and attendance flexibility for students having to feed in the morning and afternoon. All I can say is thank you for all the help through out the school.”
Freshman Leroy Pope is a veteran when it comes to exhibiting.
“I have been showing for four years now through FFA, showing both a dairy cow and a swine project all four years,” he said, “I really enjoy the feeling of showing off and competing with a project that you have raised since a young age. Animals have always been in my interest so this is what I look forwards to all year.”
