Mustang cadets take a shot at rifle competition

McKenzie Mazzella – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The LRHS Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) rifle team had its first competition Thursday at Manatee High School, taking third place.

Each competing school has a team of seven people, and each person can score a possible 300 points. At the end of a meet all the individual scores are added together for the team’s overall result.

“Since we haven’t fired in two years, they did pretty good,” commented LRHS JROTC instructor Sgt. William Cassidy.  “This year we have three brand new shooters and four shooters who have shot before.”.

Junior Grace Reeves said the team has growth potential.

“It’s nice because no one’s graduating this year,” she said, “so next year were going to have a solid team.”
