Mustangs perform at poetry slam

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- LRHS held its second poetry slam after school Wednesday in room 600.

The slam was sponsored by Speech and Debate Club and 17 students presented their own writing or excerpts of other poems.

LRHS creative writing teacher Amanda Hargen organized rhe poetry slam.

LRHS sophomore Jimmy Kellman won the school’s latest poetry slam

“This is the second year of doing the poetry slam and people do seem to like it,” she said, “so we do hope to continue doing it.”

Several student judges in the audience helped determine the winner.

This year the winner was sophomore Jimmy Kellman, who read his original poem “Alone”:

 “So the next time you insult me, just put yourself in my shoes, please.

I beg you to consider that not everyone has a perfect life, a lack of strife.

You have to realize that words can cut deep and precise just like a surgical knife.”

Sophomore Abbi Zion who was runner-up in the competition.
