(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The Manatee School District is participating in a new opportunity for girls to connect and converse.  The international non-profit peer-to-peer mentoring program called Girl Talk has created a twitter campaign #BeSDMC which stands for Be Strong, Determined, Motivated, and Celebrated.

Manatee Schools superintendent Dr. Diana Greene hopes to spread awareness of the club and hashtag to help young women face challenges that can include the pressure of social media, looks, performance in school, and relationships with family and friends.

According to the “National Report on the State of Self-Esteem”, “Seven-out-of-ten girls believe that they are not good enough.”

Greene and Girl Talk believes it doesn’t have to be that way.

“Let’s stand together-and celebrate one another. I would like to invite teen girls in the school district, to #BeSDMC,” says Greene.
