(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS Quill and Scroll is fulfilling its community service role with the Mayors’ Feed the Hungry food drive.
The Mayors’ Feed the Hungry Program is an annual food drive that collects food from across the state to help stock the various food pantries of each county and to distribute the items to the people in each community.
Students are asked to donate non-perishable food items to their first periods. The first period with the most donated items will win a donut and juice party. LRHS Quill and Scroll adviser Candice DeLazzer requests that students do not donate glass items. This prevents breakage when shipping.
Around 4,000 items were donated during last year’s food drive and the members of Quill and Scroll are aiming to beat that number.
DeLazzer said, “There are 2400 students in the school, so if each student donated at least one item for each week that the collection is taking place, we would surpass last year’s total.”
The food drive starts on Nov. 7 and will conclude Nov. 17.
