Marching Mustangs finish third in tougher competition class

Markella Paradissis-Wagner – Mustangs Ahead

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL)- The Marching Mustangs received a 74.9 and Best Percussion in the 5A class after performing their show, “Twelve Seconds to the Moon” at Newsome High School last weekend. Despite losing 19.5 hours of rehearsal time due to hurricanes, the Marching Mustangs placed third overall.

Their show portrays man’s conquest of the skies, beginning with the Wright brothers’ first 12 second flight ranging to astronauts taking the initial steps on the moon. “Twelve Seconds to The Moon” shows the excitement of flying combined with the grandness of reaching the heavens and the world above.

Classes are based on the number of woodwinds and brass players in a band. Classes range from smallest, 1A, to largest, 5A.

Freshmen trumpet player Matthew Shelton said, “It was really fun. We could’ve played a bit better but I had fun with everyone.”
