Sebastian Scalera – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH FL) – Throughout the year “Mustangs Ahead” will be helping LRHS seniors navigate the time period between day one of senior year and graduation. This monthly update will keep senior students on the graduation timeline.
As college application crunch-time approaches, the month of October presents a fairly busy agenda for the class of ’17. Here’s a glance at what seniors should be focusing on this month:
Don’t be late: “Getting [your] college applications submitted by [their] first priority deadlines is the most important” task to focus on this month according to LRHS career and college adviser Michelle Todoroff. Students should make sure they’ve gathered all necessary materials including transcripts, letters of recommendations and test scores among other things. Students and parents alike are advised to mark their calendars with the deadline dates provided by their prospective schools.
Show me the money: As of the first of the month, both the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Florida Application for Financial Aid (Bright Futures Scholarships) will be open. Any student seeking to apply for either of these major financial programs is advised to do so diligently.
Take your tests: Students should make sure that they take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) and/or the tests of the American College Testing (ACT) program. Likewise, they should be aware of when the colleges they’re applying to need those test scores by. Registration for October test dates have passed, however other dates for both tests are available online.
Colleges are coming to town: A number of schools are sending representatives to the LRHS campus to answer questions and give information. For more info, dates, and details visit the Career & College resource page of the LRHS website.
