Emma Stock – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH FL) – Throughout the year “Mustangs Ahead” will be helping LRHS seniors navigate the time period between day one of senior year and graduation. This monthly update will keep senior students on the graduation timeline.
The month of September is when seniors should be:
- Setting up a list of the colleges that you want to apply to. Keep in mind when creating the list your: financial standings, major and the schools’ education status, and your SAT/ACT scores as well as GPA. Keep the list relatively realistic, but you can also include some schools that might be a reach just to see.
“When looking at your list of schools look at the essay topics and find one that is similar to the all the other college essay topics, and pick a topic you are interested in,” said LRHS career and college counselor Michelle Todoroff.
- Begin filling out applications for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and start collecting recommendations. Begin your college essays.
- Once the essay has been edited students should start determining what individual colleges and universities require for the application. Consider things like teacher recommendations and the Self-Reported Student Academic Record (SSAR) along with other personal questions.
- A complete list of senior tasks was created by CBS News, ” Going to College: 15 Tasks.”
