JROTC wraps week with fundraiser

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS’s Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Is participating in a 5k-fundraising run in order to raise money for special teams, entrance fees to competitions, equipment, resources and for the military ball.

JROTC students are supposed to ask people in the community for flat donations or to sponsor them by either lap or mile.  There is also a cash incentive for the top two earners.

LRHS JROTC teacher Lt. Col. Richard Roller said, “We shifted to a pledge-based fundraiser because it allows students to have more of an impact on a community,” because they go house to house or talking to large groups about the JROTC program and what it means.

The 5k was originally scheduled for Sept. 1-2 during the classes’ Physical Training, but due to the weather and subsequent cancelled school days is was postponed to Sept. 8-9.
