Robby Rodriguez – Mustangs Ahead
(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS Blood Drive Committee held its first meeting Aug. 25. This year’s club president is senior Hailey Barns.
At the meeting Barns covered information about the first blood drive of the school year, advertisement, volunteering and sign up dates.
The school’s first 2016-17 blood drive is scheduled for Sept. 1. Members of the blood drive committee will spend part of their Aug. 30 and 31 lunch period seeking sign ups and donations. This will take place the two days before the actual event.
Donors must be at least 16. They have the opportunity to earn community service hours and have their names entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of six Blood Drive Committee Scholarships.
For every pint of blood that gets donated, One Blood will give $10 to help fund the scholarships. Meanwhile, Buckle Up for Bswag and Bubba Association (B.U.B.B.A) will match two of the scholarships for two members of the 2016-17 senior class.
LRHS blood drive coordinator and science teacher Maria Whalen announced, “We will be scheduling appointments during lunch Tuesday and Wednesday during all lunches in the cafeteria. Students must be at least 16 years old in order to donate. Remember….One Blood donates money to our Blood Drive scholarship fund for every unit of blood that is donated. (this is a win-win situation!). Saving lives…one pint at a time.”
Posters on this blood drive are currently all around school. Direct questions to Barns or Whalen in room 412.
