(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The Marching Mustangs have been keeping busy recently entertaining at various events throughout the community.

Wednesday, April 15, a jazz combo from LRHS, comprised of junior trumpet player Zack Masengale, senior saxophone player Hunter Reed, senior drummer Steve Estes, sophomore guitarist Kevin Mendel, junior pianist Zach West, and freshman bassist Jeremy Caldwell performed at the Publix corporate SHINE service award ceremony.

“My dad’s boss puts on a banquet for all the people that have worked for Publix for a long time and he had heard us play before and asked us to perform at the event,” said senior Hunter Reed. “It’s cool for us because we aren’t getting judged or anything, we get paid and we get to have fun.”

On Saturday, April 18, the LRHS drumline played cadences as runners arrived at the opening ceremony for the JDRF Diabetes Walk on Lakewood Ranch Main Street.

“I really like getting to do community events,” said sophomore Jordan Tuttle, who plays tenor drums. “They’re a lot of fun and there’s no pressure like there is for competitions.”

Sunday, April 19, a small “mini marching band,” composed of a few members from each section in the marching band, performed for hundreds of people at the Lakewood Ranch Country final charity event of the winter season.

“I’m so proud of the band’s efforts,” said band director Ron Lambert. “They represent our band program and our school so well when they perform throughout the community.”

There is no rest for the weary as the Marching Mustangs now gear up to perform in the Heritage Parade on Saturday, April 25.

“It is an event that our community looks forward to every year. We are excited to entertain and impress everyone with our Mustang Pride,” Lambert added.
