(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The LRHS Key Club attended their state conference this weekend, winning nine awards and making a great impression of the organization.

Club adviser and LRHS science teacher Lisa Albano said, “They achieved a lot and kept the members really exited, especially  since they won nine awards.  They have never won any other awards before and this definitely encouraged them and kept there moral up.”

Among the awards for the Mustangs was 1st place recognition for nontraditional scrapbook and the club membership growth award.

This was Albano’s first year as adviser. A second adviser, LRHS english teacher Mandy Kersey, was injured before the convention and Albano had to take on the responsibly of sole advisor for the event.

“I was nervous, happy, exited all at the same time,” she said, “and since it was my first year I wanted to help them achieve all they could.”

Over 2,000 people attended the state convention, from 26 different districts around Florida.

Albano said, ” We would like to start this next year with more members and recruiting much more people to the club now that more people know what key club is. We won the club membership growth award and we want to keep the ball rolling by having more people join.”

Key club is a nationally recognized organization that offers community service and scholarship opportunities and a chance to win other awards.
