(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – With the school year coming to an end many LRHS seniors are already accepted into colleges and plan to be a big part of campuses across the state in 2015-16.
Matt Roberts, who is committed to Florida Gulf Coast University for baseball, plans on majoring in exercise science in the fall. Roberts is excited for meeting new people from around the country and world.
“What I’ll miss most about high school is being with all my friends who I’ve grown up with and have been here since I was young,” said Roberts.
Jackie Schoff, plans on continuing her education and softball career at Florida International University. She plans on majoring in fitness and is excited to attend a campus that is a good distance from home.
Steve Estes chose the University of Central Florida because of its marching band and jazz band. He is very excited to pursue his education in music performance. This was his first choice school because of its music program and because of its location in Orlando, Florida.
Hiwot Zewdie, who plans on attending University of South Florida, says she is most looking forward to independence. She plans on studying biomedical science.
“They have good research opportunities and have an accelerated program that will allow me to get through my education faster and i can start doing what i want to do earlier,” said Zewdie.
Kate Konieczny says she was torn between University of Florida and University of South Florida but decided to become a Florida Gator.
“I absolutely fell in love with the school when i toured it and felt inspired and motivated by all the wonderful opportunities it has to offer and all the amazing people i will be able to study among.” Konieczny plans on studying psychology or health sciences.
Konieczny who was drum major in the Lakewood Ranch Marching Band, said she will miss the people in the band program.
“I’ve become so accustomed to seeing the same group of people everyday, so that will be a weird adjustment,” she said. “The band program has been my home for the last four years so it will be strange to walk away from it.”
Jennifer Miranda plans to study psychology and pre-health professions at Florida Atlantic University.
“It has a unique pre-health program and the location is beautiful,” said Miranda. She is going to miss her friends but said “Living on my own and studying what I’m passionate about is what I’m most looking forward to.”
