(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – The Lakewood Ranch High School’s girl’s varsity tennis team is bringing home a state title.

Seniors Lauren Proctor and Ashley Bongart, juniors Selena Gomez and Jessie Kroupa and freshman Natalia Vuckovic won it all for the Mustangs.

Kroupa says is happy about her team’s progress and hard work at states.

“The state experience was great,” she said. “It’s really cool seeing how hard everybody worked and how well it paid off.”

Gomez is proud of this season and the teams achievement of winning the state title.

“It was a great season and it was great meeting new teammates,” she said. “Winning states was a big accomplishment for us.”

In doubles, the teams of Bongart/ Vuckovic and Proctor/ Kroupa won their quarterfinal matches in straight sets. This is Proctor’s first year playing high school tennis.

Lakewood Head Coach Ed Bongart told HT Preps, “Everyone played well today. I kind of had in my mind some thoughts of where I’d like to be after day one and we exceeded that.”

“It’s a different pressure than USTA [US Tennis Association] events… but winning a state title would be awesome and I’d love to help this girl win one,” said Proctor playfully nudging Bongart, according to HT preps.

The girls are highly satisfied with their achievements on that court and are looking forward to doing the same thing next season.
