Way Back When – Lowen remembers high school years

(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – For students at LRHS, high school life is right now, but for the staff and faculty it is all a memory. LRHS Assistant Principal Valencia Lowen remembers well her personal high school experience.

Lowen graduated in the late 70’s from Mobile Alabama High School. She can clearly remember how her high school life was, and how different it was from the typical high school student’s experience at the Ranch.

“For one thing, there was no FCAT testing” said Lowen. “Computers or cell phones weren’t there either.” For students at LRHS technology is a main way of learning in everyday life.

The dance and fashion styles of today’s Mustangs are very different from Lowen’s high school style. It was a “disco rage,” she said.

“My favorite memory of high school life was all the school spirit,” said Lowen. Mustangs take pride in their school, but Lowen said it seemed so much more intense when she was experiencing it herself.

“I remember everyone getting all dressed up and faces painted for every game,” said Lowen.

High school years fly by so fast, but they are among the most memorable years of life. In the blink of an eye, the students of Lakewood Ranch will be looking back, like Lowen, on their time in high school.
