(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS junior weightlifter Riley Bohan has qualified for the state championship competition for the second year in a row, but this will be her first time attending.
“I am very excited to be going to states,” she said. “I qualified for states last year but I was not able to go, so high school states will be a new experience for me.”
Bohan began her high school weightlifting career her freshman year when she joined the high school team. Since then, she has come in second in the last two district meets.
“Weightlifting is a sport that you can constantly make measurable improvements in and the community is great to be part of,” said Bohan.
Bohan qualified for state by finishing second in the District 8 meet. She lifted a combined 330 pounds in the clean and jerk and bench press.
Outside of FHSAA lifting, Bohan participates in weightlifting competitively. In her age group and weight class she has placed in the top two the past two years at the USA Weightlifting (USAW) Youth National Championships and has had the opportunity to represent the USA on the U15 Pan American Team.
” My goals are to utilize every opportunity that comes through weightlifting,” said Bohan, ” I hope to advance wherever I can, whether that be high school weightlifting or olympic lifting.”
