(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS takes pride in its security and is always looking for more ways to improve it.
Many students here at the Ranch sense that.
“I feel safe here, the school is very clean and I enjoy coming to school every day to enhance my education,” said senior Nicole Nolfi.
Senior Reed Corley agreed. “I feel like I can come to school and not worry about my safety.” says Senior Reed Corley.
There have been many security improvements this year.
“We have moved the attendance office to the front of the school,” said Assistant Principal Michael Mullen, “making sure our doors are always locked, and updating the software on the security cameras.”
Last year the attendance office was located inside the school. Potential security threats were eliminated by bringing the attendance office to the front. Every person coming inside the school must sign in and receive a visitor badge.
Assistant Principal Valencia Lowen states that Manatee Sheriffs Office dogs were brought earlier this year to send a message to the students that school security is getting better.
“I want this school to be clean and safe,” she said, “but also want to make that distinction that this is not a prison, but for a place where students can learn without being threatened.”
There are new ideas being thought of improving school security, however it has not been made public what is planned.
Meanwhile, Manatee Sheriffs Deputy Maxie Bragg is on campus in case of law enforcement related incidents and emergencies.
